Dialouge is frequently where opportunity lives.

I understand what you have said in so far as it illustrates my point.

You didn't do it, so why should you be responsible?

Of course, you and I are not responsible for the atrocities of 150 years ago.

Yet here we are. We all do share in the consequences.

The choice is to do nothing and be "right" about our stance or chose otherwise and live in a better world.

Since you used a Biblical example, I'll offer the reasoning behind God giving his only begotten Son up for crucifixion.

The observant say He washed our sins away with the blood of Jesus.

Why? He didn't do anything?

Whether you believe Jesus was the living embodiment of the almighty on Earth or not. The example is to be responsible for and on behalf of your brothers and sisters in fulsome ways.

No comparisons or metaphors are perfect, but here is another one.

You buy a home and find out later there are issues with the house. There is no way to be compensated for the necessary work.

You would be right that you aren't responsible and shouldn't have to pay for the repairs.

Yet there you are in a house in need of work.

You get to choose. Make repairs and enjoy my home, or do I live in its disrepair.

Nobody said it would be easy, but it's worth it to take steps that acknowledge humanity.

It's worth it to open the doors of trust that lead to a more equitable and harmonious life for all.
